Our flooring installation service in Medellín

A good installation starts with the site visit. We measure the area, check the level of the subfloor (contrapiso) with a 2-meter straightedge and take a moisture reading before recommending a material.

In apartment buildings we coordinate work hours, elevator use and debris removal with building management (administración), which approves renovation work under Colombia's condominium law.

  • Free site visit and measurement, within 24 to 72 hours
  • Written, itemized quote within 24 to 48 hours
  • Removal of the old floor and debris, when needed
  • Leveling, moisture barrier and installation

Choose your floor by material family

Each service page explains the process, brands and timelines specific to its material.

Solid and engineered hardwood floors

Key difference: solid wood moves with humidity, while engineered wood, with its plywood core, is more stable.

Rigid floors: laminate, SPC, WPC and vinyl

Key difference: laminate has an HDF core, SPC a stone and PVC core and WPC a wood and plastic core; vinyl is flexible PVC.

Microcement, epoxy and concrete

Continuous floors with no visible joints, applied in layers over a solid base.

What goes under the floor: subfloor, moisture barrier and heating

Many of the complaints we inspect on floors installed by others come from the base, not the material. A damp or uneven subfloor shortens the life of any floor.

A level subfloor

Click floors tolerate about 3 mm of unevenness over 2 meters, depending on the manufacturer. We correct it with self-leveling compound from COP $35,000 per m².

Subfloor repair and leveling

Moisture barrier

When the reading is high, we apply a membrane or sealer before the floor goes down. This is common on ground floors and in newly delivered buildings.

Moisture barrier

Underfloor heating

In Llanogrande and La Ceja some clients ask for electric radiant floor heating under porcelain tile or wood, wired in line with RETIE, Colombia's electrical installation regulations.

Stairs, baseboards and transition strips

Every tread and riser is measured, cut and fixed separately, which is why stair and railing installation is quoted per step: COP $350,000 to $900,000.

Between two materials we use transition strips, and around the perimeter, baseboards that cover the expansion gap. If the floors end up at different heights, we fit a ramp profile instead of leaving a step; our guide to baseboards, transitions and trims explains how.

How we install a floor, step by step

This is the general process; each service page details the variation for its material.

  1. 1

    Site visit and moisture test

We measure every space and take hygrometer readings at several points on the subfloor.

  2. 2

    Itemized quote

Material, labor, baseboards, transitions and removal, in writing within 24 to 48 hours.

  3. 3

    Removal and leveling

We lift the old floor and correct any unevenness. Debris leaves in sacks along the route building management specifies.

  4. 4

    Acclimation

Wood and laminate rest in the space for the time the manufacturer requires, usually 48 hours.

  5. 5

    Installation with expansion gaps

We leave the perimeter gap each material needs and stagger the boards so the joints never line up.

  6. 6

    Finishing and handover report

Transitions, baseboards and cleanup. We walk the floor with you and sign the handover report (acta de entrega).

What drives the price of an installation up or down

Flooring installation FAQs

Why is plastic or a barrier laid down before installing the floor?

The subfloor releases water vapor, especially on ground floors and in newly delivered buildings. That vapor swells laminate and wood and makes glued floors come loose, so we measure it and, if needed, apply a moisture barrier.

How long does it take to install flooring in a 70 m² apartment?

With the subfloor in good shape: laminate, SPC or vinyl, 2 to 4 days; engineered hardwood, 3 to 5; porcelain tile, 5 to 8; microcement, 6 to 9. Solid hardwood with sanding and lacquering takes 8 to 12 days.

Do you install floors in offices, hotels and shops?

Yes. See our commercial flooring for offices, shops and businesses, with phased work and crew paperwork for building managers.
