Broadloom and carpet tile

Carpet installation in Medellín for homes and offices

Pisos Pro Medellín installs broadloom (roll) carpet and modular carpet tile in bedrooms, home theaters, offices, hotels and auditoriums across the Aburrá Valley. We are flooring specialists with more than 15 years of experience, and we stretch carpet with the proper trade tools, not by hand.

Our clients range from families who want warmth and quiet in their bedrooms to companies refurbishing offices one zone at a time and hotels or event halls that need fast replacements. We help you pick the fiber, pad and installation method based on the traffic the space really gets.

After more than 900 jobs we know that ripples nearly always come from poor stretching and that mold comes from carpeting where carpet should not go. That is why we test moisture before installing and give a 1-year labor warranty.

Carpet installation in Medellín: residential and commercial

The service includes removing the old carpet, pad and tack strip, preparing the subfloor (contrapiso), laying new pad, stretching or gluing the carpet, seaming, and finishing at doorways and transitions to other flooring.

In homes we carpet bedrooms, walk-in closets, interior stairs and home theaters, where carpet improves the acoustics. For businesses we install offices, meeting rooms, hotel corridors, auditoriums and event halls.

Fibers: nylon, polypropylene and wool

Nylon (polyamide)

The toughest fiber and the best at springing back after being crushed. With a stain-resistant treatment it is the choice for offices and high-traffic corridors.

Polypropylene

Cheaper and nearly non-absorbent, so it shrugs off drink spills and wet cleaning. Its weak point is that it flattens under traffic and shows marks from dragged furniture.

Wool

Natural, warm and inherently fire resistant, but the most expensive option. It absorbs moisture from the air, so in damp rooms it needs good ventilation to avoid odors and mildew.

Power-stretched over pad or glued down

For residential carpet we nail tack strip 1 cm from the wall, lay a polyurethane foam or rubber pad, and stretch the carpet wall to wall with a power stretcher. A knee kicker alone cannot reach proper tension, and that carpet ripples within a few months.

Seams are joined with hot-melt seaming tape and a seaming iron, with the pile running the same way and, where possible, parallel to the window light. That keeps them almost invisible.

In offices we glue directly to the subfloor: broadloom with permanent carpet adhesive and carpet tile with a releasable tackifier that lets you lift tiles later. With no pad or tack strip, the carpet will not shift under rolling chairs or carts.

Moisture, dust mites and mold: when carpet is a bad idea

Medellín has high relative humidity most of the year, and on ground floors, in basements and in Eastern Antioquia houses the subfloor can stay damp. Under carpet that moisture cannot evaporate, and within weeks you get a musty smell, mold on the backing and dust mites.

Before quoting we check subfloor moisture with a meter. If it reads high, we propose a moisture barrier before carpeting or recommend a floor that copes better with those conditions, such as vinyl or rubber.

For allergy sufferers we suggest a short cut pile or low loop that vacuums thoroughly, plus weekly vacuuming with a HEPA filter. Our guide to humidity and floors in Medellín explains how to spot the problem at home.

Carpet for offices, hotels and auditoriums

For commercial spaces we specify solution-dyed nylon or polypropylene, high density and a stable backing. Carpet tile lets you replace just the tiles at the entrance or along the main corridor, which wear first, without shutting down the whole office.

In auditoriums, meeting rooms and hotel corridors, carpet cuts footstep noise and reverberation. For these spaces we require the supplier's fire performance data sheet and prefer products with a flame-retardant treatment certified by the manufacturer.

We work zone by zone, at night or on weekends, so your operation keeps running. See how we serve businesses on our commercial flooring page.

Installed carpet cost per m²

Fiber and density account for most of the price range. The pad, removal of the old carpet and the complexity of the space, such as stairs or lots of cuts, make up the rest.

How we install carpet

  1. 1

    Measuring and seam plan

We measure every room and decide where seams fall, away from doors and walkways, and which way the pile runs.

  2. 2

    Removal

We pull up the old carpet, pad and tack strip, remove staples and nails, and bag the waste in sacks.

  3. 3

    Preparation

We sweep, vacuum, patch holes and test moisture. Any bump in the subfloor telegraphs through the carpet, especially with carpet tile.

  4. 4

    Pad and tack strip

We fasten the tack strip and roll out the pad with its seams running across the carpet seams.

  5. 5

    Stretching or gluing

We stretch with a power stretcher or glue with the notched trowel the adhesive specifies. Seams are heat-sealed with tape and a seaming iron.

  6. 6

    Finishing

We trim against the baseboard, tuck the edge with a stair tool and install transition strips at doorways and floor changes.

Carpet installation FAQs

How long does office carpet last?

A good-density nylon carpet lasts 10 to 15 years in an office with normal traffic; a polypropylene one, 5 to 8. Entrances and corridors wear faster, and that is where carpet tile lets you change only those tiles.

Daily vacuuming and a professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months extend its service life.

Can a damp ground floor be carpeted?

Only after testing. If subfloor moisture is within the manufacturer's limits, we install with a moisture-resistant pad; if not, the cause gets treated first or a barrier goes down.

Carpeting over an untreated damp floor guarantees mold, and that damage falls outside any installation warranty.

Do you haul away the old carpet?

Yes. We lift it along with the pad, nails and staples, bag it in sacks, carry it out by the route building management (administración) designates and take it to an authorized disposal site. That cost is itemized in the quote.
